Technology is changing the way we take care of ourselves, our relationship with others and even the way we live. Today, everyone- from the most experienced to the beginners are trying to protect themselves from cyber criminals from stealing their confidential data.
But recent data breach at Yahoo is an incident that has shaken the digital world and raised a question “How secure we are?” If organizations like them are not secure, what about us? In short, we can say that nobody is safe today. Advancement of cyber technology side by side creates a big hole on the walls of security. Hackers are everywhere and they are not missing a single chance to breach data. Any leakage in security leads to a big loss.
In this article, I am trying to explain some of the interesting and effective ways that help you in ruining their efforts and making it difficult for them in succeeding.
Regularly update your security solutions and applications
Updating solutions is very important, as software updates contribute to security defects if any. That means, if there is any issue with security it will be resolved while updating. That simply means cyber criminals will not be able to exploit anything from your systems.
Implement security solutions
Are you using any type of antivirus on your computer system? They are must to keep viruses away. In the same way installing a perfect security solution is must for your online resources and credentials. The Web sso (single sign-on) method is one such solution that keeps our resources secure and safe from the hackers.
Immediately report phishing emails
It is very common to receive emails from senders that look familiar but leads you to the fake web portal. It is one of the most common tricks that hackers are using.
In order to prevent the situation, it is very important to report such spammy websites from whatever web browser you are using. You should also report them to antivirus provider.
Change passwords regularly
Most of us hate to do this and keep the same password for a long-time. We also use the same password for many of the resources we are dealing with.
Don’t use the same password and don’t forget to change them with strong and hard to crack combination of words. The approach will save you from attacking.
Try two-factor authentication
I know, even if you follow all the solutions that I mentioned till yet, systems can still be compromised. Two-factor authentication is a way that reduces the chances of cyber attacks to a great level by improving security.
In this solution, users have to face two factors in order to get access to resources. That means even if passwords are hacked, the resources are safe because hackers still need the second factor (a unique code, special key, biometric means, etc.) to prove the identity. The solution adds an extra security layer.
Avoid sharing everything on social networks
It is very well known that users are sharing an excessive amount of sensible information on different social media networks.
We need to avoid the situation by changing the viewing option from public to private or contacts if we are posting any sensible post or content.
Use of VPN
Using VPN (virtual private network) is also a nice way to avoid hackers. Changing VPN helps you to hide your IP address and saves you from cyber attacks.
No doubt, if you will follow the tips mentioned above, you will improve security to your systems and online resources and create difficulties for cyber attackers to steal your confidential data and ruin their day.
Did you find the above-mentioned tips useful? If you have any other ways to ruin their day, mention it in the comment box.
